In this episode, Laura chats to our very own Hollywood actress Victoria Smurfit and her daughter Evie about her diagnosis with a life-limiting sight loss condition.
Victoria shares her parenting journey from diagnosis to one of action in finding new treatments and ultimately a cure powered by greater investment in research. Working with Fighting Blindness, Victoria and her daughter Evie, who recently turned 14 years old, hope to inform and inspire others who may be living with the rare genetic condition and create a supportive community for the degenerative condition brought on by the onset of puberty.
Victoria and Evie stole the hearts of the nation during their appearance on the Late Late Show on Friday, November 16. Viewers were in awe of their sheer honesty, bravery and Evie’s inspiring outlook on life with Stargardt’s Macular Dystrophy.
The rare genetic condition causes the deterioration of the macula and surrounding retina and will eventually cause blindness.
