At the age of eight, she appeared on Dance Moms. By the time she was 11 she starred in one of the most viewed music videos of all time for Sia’s Chandelier.
Maddie Ziegler’s career has sky-rocketed since she started working with Sia, but people have claimed that it is unfair of the pop star to expose Maddie to fame at such a young age.
Sia has fought back against the critics and revealed that she is extremely protective of the dancer. She took to Twitter to express her thoughts on the heated topic. She wrote, “I do check in with Maddie weekly about whether she wants this.”
The Cheap Thrills singer admitted that she often tells Maddie that she can stop working with her whenever she wants.
She defended herself by explaining that Maddie was already famous when they first met. Her role in Sia’s music videos helped boost her career. Sia shared, “I have certainly expanded her exposure and feel responsible for that. I feel very protective of her.”
She explained that she has a healthy relationship with the teenager. She only wants the best for Maddie, “My goal is to empower her in whatever choices she makes.”
The Grammy nominee understands that some people think young children shouldn’t make decisions for themselves, but she explained that she always has Maddie’s best interest at heart.
“What I learned from Maddie is that fame affects her differently than how it affected me,” she revealed.
Sia trusts that the teenager will always be honest with her, “I can only trust that she is telling me the truth. If that changes, we stop.”
