Cold cream has been a part of women’s daily beauty regimes for close to a century and remains a staple for women the world over. But, today’s crème based cleaners are not the same as the cold cream your mother used. Today’s crème based cleansers have ingredients specifically formulated for various skin types.

Should I use a Foaming or Non-Foaming Crème Cleanser?
If your skin is prone to becoming easily irritated, a natural crème cleanser is best for you. Natural crème cleansers are non-detergent, meaning that harsh chemicals called Surfactants are not added, and will cause less irritation to sensitive skin.

Surfactants are used in cleansers to cause foaming, which many women believe proves that the product is working; however, this is not the case. Non-foaming crème cleansers use oils remove dirt and unwanted oils from the skin in the same manner that hard detergents do in other products. When the crème is washed away the dirt and oils are removed.

If you want a foaming crème cleanser that will not irritate sensitive skin, look for a natural crème cleanser that contains a natural foaming agent like decyl glucoside or castile. Decyl glucoside is made from coconut and castile is made from olive oil, which are both proven to be good for most skin types.

What about Oily Skin?
If you have oily skin, you have to be careful selecting natural crème cleansers as they are mostly made of natural oils. Look for a product in which oils are not the predominant ingredients by read the list of ingredients to see how far down the oils are listed. The lower on the list, the less the product contains. There are also some natural crème cleansers on the market that are specifically formulated for oily skin.
