The arrival of a baby is always worthy of major celebrations, regardless of its gender, but the Underdahl family have an extra reason to rejoice over their little bundle of joy.

The family, from Idaho in the US, have made headlines around the world after welcoming the first daughter to the family in a staggering 101 years.

Little Aurelia Marie Ann was born on April 12 to parents Scott and Ashton, breaking a century-long family tradition.

Speaking to the Coeur d'Alene Press after the arrival of their daughter, the doting parents revealed that the entire family had been secretly hoping for a girl all along.

Clearly overwhelmed and delighted to be creating history within his family, proud dad Scott said: “Maybe it took more than 100 years to create perfection.”

“We’ve been spoiling her a bit, because it’s just different finally holding a baby girl,” he added.

We bet little Aurelia will have the run of the house!

Congratulations to the family (each generation!) on the arrival of their little (pink) bundle of joy.
