A newborn baby, with his umbilical cord still attached, was found in a bin in a ladies toilet in Indiana.

The baby’s mother, 22-year-old Briana Holland, had apparently given birth to him while she was at work. She didn’t know what to do so she put him in the bin and tried to cover him up by wrapping toilet roll around his neck, putting a plastic tampon applicator in his mouth and stuffing him in two paper bags.

According to reports, she later told detectives that he wasn’t making any sounds when he was born and she thought he was going to die anyway so her main concern was to cover him up.

Thankfully, later that night her co-workers at United Technology Carrier Corporation heard what they thought were animal noises coming from the bin and discovered the newborn boy. Employees of a fire station right across the road were particularly upset by what happened as they are a designated Safe Haven, which is somewhere his mum could have handed him over with no questions asked.

Although he was in critical condition when they found him, he is now stable and doing just fine. His father, who was unaware that his ex-girlfriend was even pregnant, is seeking custody.

Briana Holland has been formally charged with neglect, battery, and attempted murder.
