There has been a worrying rise in the number of reports of children being abandoned and found by strangers, and yet another such story has made headlines around the world today.

According to reports, a newborn baby boy was found alone in a stroller in Los Angeles this afternoon.

The child is said to have been abandoned about half a mile north of the University of Southern California campus. He was so young, that his umbilical cord was still attached when he was found by a passer-by.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the news this afternoon, stating that they received a phone call from a member of the public who had found the stroller at the side of a street.

The infant, who is said to be in a stable condition, was brought to a nearby hospital. Detectives are now investigating the incident and trying to locate the child’s parents.

The shocking incident has sparked concern and surprise among locals, particularly in light of the provisions of California’s Safely Surrendered Baby Law. Under this law, parents who don’t want to keep their babies can legally surrender them, no questions asked, to staff at hospitals or fire stations within 72 hours of giving birth.

We will keep you updated on the story as more information emerges.
