One in 10 parents confess to NEVER using sun protection on their kids

Protecting your children from the sun is one of the most important things to do, especially as the weather improves and temperatures soar in the summer months.

The scorching temperatures may be all well and good when enjoying a day at the beach but failing to protect your kiddos from being sunburn isn’t.

Sunburn is not only extremely painful but also very dangerous.

A new study has found that one in 10 parents have never used sunscreen to protect their kid’s skin.

Almost one-third of parents involved in the study admitted that they didn’t think their kid needed sun protection, despite the ever-increasing temperatures during the summer months.

50 percent of the kids whose parents never applied sunscreen to their skin suffered from sunburn.

Sunburn comes with many painful side effects including pinkness or redness of the skin, skin that feels warm or hot to the touch, pain, tenderness and itching, swelling, small fluid-filled blisters, which may break and in severe cases headache, fever, nausea and fatigue.

Sunburn can occur in children in as little as 10 to 15 minutes.

Their delicate skin is particularly susceptible to UV rays, and while you may not notice the damage immediately, it can be quite severe.

In fact, while most sunburn is a mild first-degree burn, there are cases where children and adults alike have second-degree burns with blistering and swelling.

It does not need to be a sunny day either – your child can still get burned when it is overcast, or even when he or she is sitting under a sunshade.

Remember to apply sunscreen at least 20 minutes before you go into the sun, and after every time your child is in the water.
