Someone grab this mama a glass of vino!

A mum’s hilarious and oh-so-true Facebook post about the joys of being a mother – i.e. being wrecked, driven to drink and underappreciated – has struck a chord with empathetic mums everywhere.

In the post Scottish mum-of-two Gill Sims laid out her argument why she deserves a glass of wine – and there’s not a judge in the land who would disagree with her.

“Tonight, in a change to the scheduled performance, in which Mummy drank green tea and was serene and booze free, instead Mummy is getting s**tfaced on Pink Sunshine Wine,” she began, before launching into the hectic day that had her reaching for the bottle.

First she had to take her child to the doctor, even though she told him he was fine – he was – then she did the housework, cut the grass, located her son who has run off, did the shopping, took the kids to a BBQ, cooked them dinner and cooked their dad a different dinner, and finally sorted the bins and took them out.

But then came the final insult:

“She was just about to think about sitting down when bastarding Daddy came home and made a facetious remark about had Mummy had a nice, relaxing day sitting in the sunshine? T**t,” she wrote.

“So Mummy is actually drinking wine as a safety precaution, because at least if she is pissed and Daddy tries to make any more ‘witty’ remarks, she will probably miss when she tries to stab him, and so Mummy won't spend the rest of her life in jail, and the children won't end up in a SadFace article in the Daily Mail. Cheers.”

And thousands of commenters who read her piece sympathised, with one saying, “People who think being a mummy isn’t a job should read this” while another added, “Love it ... Why is it we always get to sit down last for everything? And then do a trillion things before we can get to bed? And then get woken back up just as we are dozing off? We need a massive pat on the back! We are truly impressive.”

LOVE it! And you know what, inspired by Gill we’re going to sit down with a glass of wine ourselves tonight, a reward for a (bloody hard!) job well done.
