There is not a mum around who hasn't had to struggle through many a sleepless night, usually because their baby won't settle unless there is someone right there beside them.

So it's not surprising that demand for the Lulla Sleeping Doll is so huge.

Designed by Eyrún Eggertsdóttir, an Icelandic entrepreneur who wanted to create a doll that would keep a child company when their mum or dad wasn’t around, the Lulla Doll makes breathing sounds and has a heartbeat.

It continuously plays for eight hours and can even absorb smells so it will smell like Mum or Dad.

In fact, the doll became so popular that they sold the first five thousand in just three months.

“When we started production in 2014, we raised fund through the Indigogo crowdfunding platform to make the first five thousand dolls that arrived in September 2015. By December we were sold out,” she explained to the Iceland Monitor.

The doll is in such high demand that it has even started a bidding war on eBay in Australia, where the normally $71 toy is now going for $350.

Talking about the doll to the publication, Eyrún, who was awarded the Gulleggið entrepreneuraward in 2011, said:  "When I started this journey, I wanted to make a product that children could keep with them when a parent is not around. That developed into the Lulla Doll.”

If you want to get your hands on your very own doll, you can pre-order here; you better be quick though, otherwise you’ll be left battling other mums and dads on eBay as well!
