These stories are all too frequent these days, and our hearts go out to the latest victims of yet another report of babies swapped in hospital.

According to reports today, police in Pakistan are investigating after they brought their newborn son home from hospital, only to discover that he had been swapped for a baby girl.

The couple had welcomed their son at a hospital in Latifabad, and he rested for 36 hours until they could finally bring him home. They made the shocking swap discovery several hours after being discharged from hospital.

Police are now investigating the incident, but as yet they have no leads as to the whereabouts of the couple’s biological child. As of this morning, there were no reported cases of another missing baby from the same hospital.

An investigating police official told local news: “We are investigating the matter and hope to resolve it soon.”

Sadly, this isn’t the first case of its kind in the region. Given how sons are prized in conservative families in Pakistan, there have been several instances in the past of newborn baby boys being stolen from maternity wards.

We hope that these little ones will be returned to their parents as soon as possible.
