Police in Northamptonshire are appealing to the public for assistance following the shocking discovery of a baby girl outside a house in Corby this morning.

The infant, which had been abandoned in a cardboard box, was noticed by a member of the public when they heard cries coming from within the box which originally held a bottle and breastfeeding kit.

It has been established that the baby girl was wrapped in a blue blanket and wearing just a nappy when she was abandoned on Ibsen Walk.

According to police, the baby, who has dark hair and dark eyes, is in good health and believed to be between one and four weeks old.

She is currently being cared for by staff in Kettering General Hospital while police desperately search for the child's mother.

Anyone with any information has been urged to contact Northamptonshire Police on 101.
