A police officer has been fired after admitting to a series of sex offences against a child.

Sgt. Nick Lidstone has pleaded guilty to 13 serious offences, including sexual assault and taking indecent photos of a child. He has also admitted to three counts of rape, but has denied six further charges levelled against him.

The charges against Lidstone are said to relate to incidents and alleged abuse that took place between the years of 1997 and 2014. The victim was reportedly an adult at the time that the rape was committed.

According to reports, Lidstone, from Barrington, England, was dismissed from his post in the Cambridgeshire Police on Tuesday, on the grounds of gross misconduct.

Speaking after Lidstone's appearance before a Misconduct Panel, Deputy Chief Constable Alec Wood said: “This was an appalling crime where the victim was put through a horrendous ordeal over a prolonged period.”

Lidstone is due to be sentenced at Norwich Crown Court on December 22nd.
