To some mums-to-be, a due date is just a number, and they will continue on with their work as normal right up until their little one starts to make their presence really known.

This was the case for American journalist Jenny Doren, who surprised everyone when she went into labour last week – just minutes after finishing up her final report of the day.

Jenny, who had previously planned to work right up to the end of her pregnancy, approached her work day on Friday just like other, even though she wasn’t feeling her best.

After reporting live from a storm all morning – all the while experiencing some ‘unusual sensations’ – Jenny said that it was just as she completed her report that she realised something was up.

“I didn’t know what was going on, but told my photographer as we were getting back in the truck…I figured I could make it home first, but then we hit traffic and the pains started quickly coming more regularly and they were getting stronger,” recalled Jenny.

Thankfully, the team were only five minutes away from the nearest hospital, and they managed to get Jenny there in time – still in her storm reporting gear and full makeup. In fact, the hospital staff believed that Jenny had arrived to cover a story!

Soon after her husband arrived on the scene, Jenny gave birth to a healthy baby daughter named Madison Hailey. The tot weighed 5lbs 7oz.

Jenny, who is set to take three months off before returning to work, told local media: “Not that I would ever forget her birthday, but now it will be a little more special. There will always be a great story to tell.”
