A mother, who is now pregnant with her third child, has been charged with the murder of her two-month-old baby who died of starvation and dehydration.

It took police almost one year to arrest Brittany Marie Wiest for the murder of her baby son as they were waiting on results of post-mortem and forensic reports following the death of the 59 day-old infant.

Detective Rick Hall of the Smyrna Police Department recounted Wiest's reaction to the death of her son, telling a Nashville news station: "She honestly had no clue what had occurred. She just woke up, found the child in the condition it was in and called us."

Tragically, this was not the first time Wiest had come to the attention of officials.

The Department of Children's Services had been called to her home in the past regarding the welfare of her two-year-old daughter who is now in protective custody.

Wiest has been charged with aggravated child neglect, aggravated child abuse and felony murder.

Wiest's baby son was 6lbs at the time of his birth and five lbs at the time of his death two month later.
