The last thing we ever want to do is alarm you, but we’ve been left scratching and cringing ever since hearing the following report.

A pest-control group in the UK has warned that the country is set to be invaded by billions of super-fleas.

The fleas – which, incidentally, have some of the largest genitalia of their species – are believed to have migrated here over the past three years, their numbers booming after mating with native bugs.

The Sun quotes a representative from pest-control group Basis Prompt, who said: “Fleas which would usually remain dormant for much longer, became active sooner, leading to more prolific breeding and, therefore, a larger population.”

Our damp and humid summers have created the perfect conditions for these super-fleas to thrive, and with colder weather on the horizon they are now seeking out warm spots to reside for the winter – namely, our cosy homes!

Yes, not only do you have giant spiders to contend with, but these super-fleas will be taking advantage of any and every chance to get into our centrally-heated houses.

Experts have come out to warn families to be vigilant, and to treat their pets if they believe they may be carrying fleas. If this is the case, be sure to also clean or treat carpets and furniture where your pets may rest.

If you think you have a bite, you are advised to clean it and apply antiseptic liquid or ointment. If the bite gets worse, a pharmacist may advise you to take an antihistamine.

Always seek advice from your pharmacist or doctor when it comes to bug bites and irritations.
