Hundreds of protesters have camped out in front of an Australian hospital this weekend, to show their support for medics who have refused to discharge a vulnerable baby.

Incredible scenes have been captured outside of Brisbane’s Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital, where staff are currently caring for 12-month-old Baby Asha.

Asha has made headlines in recent times, after being admitted to the hospital from an immigration detention centre. It was there that the tot suffered burns after having boiling water accidentally spilled on her.

Baby Asha is doing well and is said to have fully recovered, but medics refused to discharge her from the facility after hearing that she would be returning to the same detention centre where the accident occurred.

The hospital employees have insisted that they will not discharge the tot until “a suitable home environment is identified”, and hundreds of locals have pledged their support by protesting against the baby’s release, outside of the hospital.

According to local news station 9news.com, the medics did not come to the decision lightly; they are believed to be conflicted over the fact that Asha is taking up a bed that could be used by another sick child, but they are said to be confident with their final stance.
