Pure joy: The OFFICIAL Call The Midwife Christmas photo has been released

We are getting closer and closer to the Call The Midwife Christmas special and we honestly cannot wait to be reunited with the ladies of Nonnatus House, and Dr. Turner of course.

It’s been far too long since the show graced our television screens and we still have 25 days to go until the Christmas special.

Luckily, the show treated fans to quite the joyous surprise today by releasing the official Christmas photo.

Fans were thrilled to see their favourite midwives and sisters grin for the camera in the festive snap.

We simply cannot cope with the look on Sister Monica Joan’s face. She looks so chuffed.

Fan favourites including nurse Trixie, Fred and nurse Phyllis also featured in the photo.

The show shared the snap on their official Twitter page, captioned: “Our new #callthemidwife Christmas cast photograph!!! The countdown is ON!”

Fans were quick to gush over the heartwarming snap of the very happy cast celebrating the most wonderful time of year.

One wrote: “I am so excited, I love this programme. I never want it to end. I hope it airs for at least 10 years or more.”

Another added: “I’m so ready for the tears!!!! Also, do NOT kill off Sister Monica Joan now or ever thank you.”

The Christmas special will see the midwives deal with a baby being born before their due date.

The girls are enjoying an evening off when a man bangs on the door of Nonnatus House. He informs the midwives that his heavily pregnant wife has gone into labour early and is having a ‘born before arrival’.

Actress Miriam Margolyes is set to star in the Christmas special as Sister Mildred. Helen George will also return to the series as Nurse Trixie, much to fans delight.
