The Queen has been left devastated following the passing of her final corgi Willow. Reports say that Her Majesty has been hit “extremely hard” by Willow’s death as the dog was her last link to her parents.

It is understood that Willow passed away on Sunday following a battle with a cancer-related disease. The Queen had been feeding and walking her beloved dog up until the weekend when his condition worsened.

The 91-year-old didn’t want the dog to suffer anymore, so he was put to sleep at Windsor Castle on Sunday.

A Buckingham Palace source told the Daily Mail that she has been extremely upset about Willow’s death, “She has mourned every one of her corgis over the years, but she has been more upset about Willow’s death than any of them.”

They explained, “It is probably because Willow was the last link to her parents and a pastime that goes back to her own childhood. It really does feel like the end of an era.”

Willow was the last dog who was part of Her Majesty’s original family of royal corgis.

The corgi descended from Queen Elizabeth’s first dog Susan, who she received as a gift for her eighteenth birthday.

The Queen has owned over 30 corgis during her lifetime, however, she decided to stop breeding them because of her age.

However, last year she adopted a corgi named Whisper. She also has two dorgis- corgi-dachshund crosses- named Candy and Vulcan.
