Rachel McAdams is unusually secretive about her first-born child, for example, the baby's birthdate isn't yet known to the public.
It was reported that she gave birth roughly on April 9 to a healthy son, but his name hasn't been revealed by McAdams or her boyfriend Jamie Linden, 28.
The actress is now speaking out about being a first time mother at the age of 40, referring to her son as 'the greatest thing that's ever happened to me, hands down.'
McAdams, who found fame after starring in The Notebook, told The Sunday Times;
“[People say] your life is not your own any more, but I had 39 years of me, I was sick of me, I was so happy to put the focus on some other person.”
"I waited a long time [for motherhood]. It’s just how it happened. And I didn’t want to do it before it was the right time,” the star continued.
Rachel never actually confirmed her pregnancy, it was discovered only when paparazzi spotted her and her seven month baby bump out and about.
She attended the Tribeca Film Festival on April. 25, and was seen on the red carpet in a sheer dress with her post baby body looking so slim that nobody realised she had given birth mere weeks earlier.
“I want to keep his life private, even if mine isn’t, but I’m having more fun being a mum than I’ve ever had. Everything about it is interesting and exciting and inspiring to me.
"Even the tough days — there’s something delightful about them.”
She spoke about a mother's life like every mum does; even getting your clothes on in the morning and brushing your hair can be a challenge.
“I have clothes on and that’s a good thing,” she told the publication “I don’t even know what I’m wearing today. The shoes are held together with glue. Isn’t that sad? I need to get a life.”
Rachel has been known to shy away from mainstream films since a few years ago, only doing a single film per year since 2015.
There are rumours that she will be reprising her role as Irene in Sherlock Holmes 3. Her boyfriend Jamie is a screenwriter who has credits such as We Are Marshall and Dear John.
Rachel said she “just wanted to be with someone creative,” adding, “we live such a gypsy life as actors, so it’s great being with someone who can be on the road as well.”
This is a big interview for Rachel, it's unlike her to speak of her private life. We're so glad she found love, and wish her all the joy that motherhood brings with her newborn son.
