Choosing a baby’s name is a personal and special experience for any parent, and so we can’t imagine how awful it must be to receive criticism over your choice of moniker for your little one.
Equally baffled this week is reality star Samantha Faiers, who has hit back at cruel online trolls who have criticised her choice of the name Paul for her newborn son.
Sam and partner Paul Knightley kept everyone on tenterhooks before finally unveiling their tot’s name this week, coinciding with their cover shoot for OK! magazine.
“We always wanted him to be called Paul after his dad. It’s traditional, and we didn’t have any other names on the list, so he’s Paul and his middle name is Tony, after Paul’s brother; his Uncle Tony,” explained the former TOWIE star.
However, it wasn’t long before people began sharing their thoughts on the name, with many followers taking to the star’s own Instagram account to criticise her choice.
“Shame about the name,” wrote one follower, while another responded with, “Paul Tony? Poor kid!!! She needs to put about a grand in the pot for that, lol!”
Sam will be comforted to know that scores of followers jumped to her aid, defending her choice, but the new mum silenced the haters herself shortly after by screen-shotting and sharing an eloquently-written message from a fan.
The message read: “I actually cannot believe the comments on here. I wonder if any of them have children of their own? I wonder if they know what it feels like to carry a child for nine months, go through labour, be blessed with a healthy child, and have the honour of calling him after his father…and all they can think of is ‘oh no, Paul’?! I think it’s beautiful and is a real display of love on [your] behalf for [your] partner.”
Re-posting the message, proud mum Sam wrote: “Couldn’t have put this in better words myself. Thank you.”
Poor Samantha! We have a feeling she won’t pay too much attention to the nasty comments, however. We think Paul is a beautiful dedication.
