While we've long since been advised to steer clear of alcohol if we're serious about dropping some pesky lbs, it appears a recent study has thrown a spanner in the works by suggesting there may be one particular drink which might in fact aid weight loss.

According to research conducted by the American Chemical Society, there exists a link between tequila and weight loss, with scientists asserting that the sugar found in the plant which makes tequila can actually lower an individual's blood glucose levels.

Put simply, researchers established that agavin which is naturally found in the agave plant is non-digestible meaning that it won't raise an individual's blood sugar level.

Using mice to test the hypothesis, scientists provided all their subjects with a standard diet, but also gave one group a supply of water with added agavins.

Scientists concluded that the mice which consumed the water also ended up consuming less food and had lower blood sugar levels than the mice who did not have access to the water.

Further to this, it was established that the mice who drank the water with added agavins produced a specific hormone which results in a fuller feeling and also stimulates the production of insulin.

A round of shots, anyone?!
