We have some very sad news to share this afternoon, with multiple news outlets reporting the sad death of British comedienne and actress Victoria Wood. She was just 62 years of age.
The sad news was confirmed by Victoria's publicist, Neil Reading, who said in a statement: "Victoria Wood has sadly passed away, after a short but brave battle with cancer."
"The multi Bafta award-winning writer, director, actor and comedian died peacefully at her north London home with family this morning. She was 62. The family ask for privacy at this very sad time," he added.
Victoria is survived by her two children with ex-husband Geoffrey Durham; Grace and Henry.
Wood became an icon in the world of comedy thanks to her role in the hugely popular sitcom Dinnerladies. She received much acclaim during her long career, winning four BAFTAs for both her on-screen and stand-up performances.
