Our hearts go out to Sir Tom Jones and family this afternoon, on the announcement that his wife, Lady Melina Rose Woodward, has passed away.
According to reports, Melinda – better known as Linda – passed away yesterday, Sunday, after a ‘short but fierce battle with cancer’. She was 75 years of age.
The sad news was confirmed by the legendary singer’s publicist this morning, following the cancellation of a gig in the Philippines. At the time, management for the Delilah singer put the cancellation down to a ‘serious illness’ in Jones’ immediate family.
In the statement, the star’s agent said: “Sir Tom Jones’ wife of 59 years, Lady Melinda Rose Woodward, passed away Sunday morning, April 10, after a short but fierce battle with cancer. Surrounded by her husband and loved ones, she passed away peacefully at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.”
The couple have one child together; 59-year-old son Mark.
Tom and Linda were childhood sweethearts, who met at the age of 12. After starting dating three years later, they went on to marry at the tender age of 16.
Our hearts go out to Sir Tom and the family’s loved ones at this very sad time.
