A number of the supermarket chain’s ready meals have been recalled over concerns that they could potentially contain metal shards.
The UK’s Food Safety Agency (FSA) issued the warning, revealing that a batch of potatoes used in the ready meals could have been contaminated after a piece of machinery broke on the food production line.
The statement, from FSA Chief Operating Officer Jason Feeney, read: “The FSA is advising anyone who bought these products not to eat them and return them to the shop where they were purchased. The pieces of metal which may be present are potentially harmful, so people should check whether they have bought any of the products.”
Sainsbury’s has been forced to recall over 40 products from both their adult’s and children’s ranges. Meanwhile, Morrison’s and Waitrose have had to recall one product each.

A spokesperson from Sainsbury’s said this week: “The safety of our products is of paramount importance to us, and so as a precaution we have withdrawn three date codes and we apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused.”
