The man who blackmailed Michael Schumacher's family has been ordered to undergo psychiatric therapy and community service.

The man, known as Husseyin B, sent a threatening email to Schumacher's wife, Corrinne.

The email asked for a 'small donation' of €900,000 and threatened, "If the money does not come to us by March 31, 2016, your children will be in some way unlucky. A lot of accidents happen in Formula 4."

The threat is particularly nasty as the family dealt with the fallout from father Michael's tragic skiing accident in 2013.

The legendary racing driver was skiing in the French Alps with his son Mick when he fell and sustained a life-threatening brain injury. The seven-time Formula One World Champion was placed in a medically-induced coma for seven months. Tragically, he remains wheelchair-bound and unable to speak.

Mick Schumacher, 18, began his career as a Formula Four driver the previous year.

Corinne has been running the family business as well as raising her and Schumacher's children, Mick and Gina Maria Schumacher, 20.

The blackmailer was easily caught as he listed a bank account that he wanted the €900k paid into.

Corinne immediately contacted police in the Swiss canton where the family live, and provided detectives with the email which listed a bank account the dim-witted blackmailer wanted the money paid into.

Judge Eberhard Hausch said in court on Wednesday: "It was hardly sensible to state your own bank account number."

Huseyin B. admitted everything, making Corinne's appearance in court unnecessary.

The wannabe blackmailer was sentenced to 21 months' probation, 50 hours of community service, and ordered to partake in psychiatric therapy.

The Schumacher family recently received €50k in damages from a German publication who claimed the racer could 'walk again'. German tabloid Bunte falsely claimed that Schumacher could walk again after the horror ski accident.

The family have remained intensely private about his condition four years on.
