Serena Williams is back on the court for her first championship since welcoming her daughter.

Yesterday, she competed in the first round of the French Open.

Serena took to Twitter after her match, to share an empowering message for all the mums who had a difficult postpartum recovery.

Looking incredible, Serena captioned the photograph:

"Catsuit anyone? For all the moms out there who had a tough recovery from pregnancy—here you go. If I can do it, so can you. Love you all!!"

Wearing the full-length catsuit, Serena bet Kristyna Pliskova.

The sportswear protects against blood clots, but for the tennis champion, it means a lot more than its practicality.

The mum wanted to send a message about self-worth as she returns to the action.

“It feels like this suit represents all the women that have been through a lot mentally, physically, with their body to come back and have confidence and to believe in themselves,” Williams said, in light of her first win.

“I definitely feel like it is an opportunity for me to inspire a whole different group of amazing women and kids,” she added.

Serena currently sits at a 453 ranking.

Before her daughter's arrival, the athlete held the number one ranking in the world.

Serena took maternity leave from the sport and gave birth to baby Alexis Olympia, nine months ago.
