Katie Holmes has said she's willing to give up acting in favour of directing, in order to give daughter Suri,10, a more stable childhood.

In an interview with Town & Country magazine, the actress said: "My child is the most important person to me, and her upbringing is paramount to my work right now.

"It's very important that I'm present and she has a stable, innocent childhood."

She thinks working solely as a director in the future will be beneficial to family life.

Katie, 38, admits it's hard to watch her only child grow up so fast.

"You want them to stay with you forever, but they're these amazing beings, and you have to do everything you can to give them what they need — and then they're going to go.

"And that's going to be very, very sad for me."

Katie shares custody of Suri with Tom Cruise, following their divorce in 2012.
