As a parent, there is nothing more heartbreaking than seeing your child struggling through a fever, nasty cold or even the flu.

But we also know just how hard it can be trying to get them to take their much-needed medicine; babies usually spit it back up and toddlers tend to cower away when you go near them with the spoon.

However, one mum has come up with the best trick to ensure kids get the recommended medicine when they are ill, and we'll definitely be giving it a go.

Helena Lee was struggling for almost 24 hours to get her poorly tot, Alfie, to take his Calpol.

Eventually, the mum decided to take the lid from a baby bottle and hold the medicine pen to the tip, allowing Alfie to suck the liquid out of his own accord.

Helena shared: "Not one bit got wasted and no tears."

We don't know if Alfie realised he liked the taste because of the bottle, or whether he was just more receptive to it, but it worked for Mum and the little bub.

The simple trick will help many mums and dads when trying to soothe their littles ones; don't forget to share with your mum friends.
