The cold months are on the horizon, and I'm sure like any parent, many are mindful of their children's health and how to keep their mini immune systems in check!

Having a poorly child is one of the worst things in the world, and we, unfortunately, can never 100% avoid sickness, but there are a few things to remember that can help towards keeping the worst of it at bay, and keeping our children strong throughout!

So here's a few pointers, all simple, non-medical, everyday tips!

1. Keep their diet enriched with lovely fresh fruit and vegetables. Think leafy greens and citrus fruits, blueberries, all the goodness!

2. Teach your child to cover their mouth and nose when they sneeze. Not only is this a good manner to teach but also stops the germs from spreading! We teach our son to sneeze into his elbow instead of his hands as germy hands are a great way to spread sickness!

3. Even when they are really little, teach them to wash their hands, whether it's after going to the toilet, before eating, or after they have been outside! Using a gentle hand sanitizer suitable for children's young sensitive skin is a handy one to have in the bag while out and about too!

4.  Spend time outdoors! The Nordic people are known for bundling their little ones up and having them nap outside in minus temperatures. Obviously, there is no such thing here, but not being afraid to get outside, even in the cold, is an important thing. Cold air is still fresh air, and as long as everyone is wrapped up accordingly, why not?

5. Add honey - Honey has antibacterial properties and is great soothing and healing. Adding it to things such your morning oats, or into natural yoghurt is a good idea. This point, however, is strictly for over one-year-olds.

6. Keep hydrated! Just because it's not warm doesn't mean we can't still get dehydrated. If your little one finds cold water too cold for Winter months, try it out just a little warm, maybe add a little lemon, so refreshing!

Keep warm, keep healthy, keep happy! I will now leave you with this super simple Winter smoothie to try out...hope you like!
