This is the time of year when teenagers and students all over the country receive results that pave the way for the next chapter of their lives.

While there are many who have plenty of reason to celebrate, there are those who didn’t do as well as they expected, and it is these people Cheryl Fernandez-Versini is addressing.

Writing in her Huff Post blog, the Fight for this Love singer reaches out to teens who were disappointed by their GCSE results today.

With a nod towards the incredible results received by many, she wrote: “In the middle of all the headlines announcing 'record results', we mustn't forget those who are waking up today, who didn't get the results they so desperately wanted. These young people are also about to start a new chapter of their lives, but sadly, with it will come anxiety, uncertainty and in some cases even depression.”

Highlighting the importance of a role model, the X Factor judge, who described the area she grew up in as "tough" where she "saw drug and alcohol abuse, crime and poverty" believes she wouldn't eb where she is without the help of her parents: "They've made it possible for me to create an amazing life for myself, doing something I love every day."

“You don't have to be from a large family to have a happy childhood, but you do need to have that one role model. Someone you can look up to or ask for advice every now and then,” she finished.

Wise words for anyone left feeling disappointed today.
