As incredible as giving birth can be (and is), we know mums' experiences all vary.

That's why it can help greatly to hear about as many different experiences as possible - it can be a source of great comfort to know that perhaps your experience isn't so unique and others have gone through it.

Singer Jamelia decided to open up about her own experiences, specifically, the birth of her 'miracle baby' for the first time.

At 23 weeks pregnant, doctors told her to prepare for the worst as her waters broke prematurely.

However, despite the odds, she managed to last 36 weeks and told ITV's Lorraine she has recently given birth to her baby daughter named True Winter.

"I didn't think for a second my pregnancy could continue," she said. "When your waters break they think you'll go into labour within the hour," she said.

She described the whole process as "completely scary" and explained that she had to be hospitalised several times with 100% bed rest.

It was, she said, an experience that "really opened her eyes."

"‘I was given steroids, I’ve been repeatedly hospitalised and I was monitored twice a week. It was a really scary time for all of us, they keep calling my daughter a miracle baby. Going through something like that really opens your eyes," she continued.

Thankfully, mum and daughter are now all doing well and the Superstar singing says her two eldest daughters are thrilled with their new sibling.
