As we bask in this lovely sunshine we've been getting lately, it's not often I don't get persuaded by my adamant toddler to go to her favourite place. Forget Happy meals, ice cream parlours or doughnut stops - smoothies are where it's at!

I began giving my little lady smoothies at the cute age of seven months, and from then on it was a full on passion. Like crazy obsessed!

So with that, and after so many "quick fixes" of running by the local smoothie bar I decided I would have to get back to making more of my own during these warm months.

It's honestly one of those things that when you start making them, you realise the endless amounts of combinations, the various tastes and colours, and all the goodness!

And you know what is also so beautiful about it? You don't have to stick to fruit. Squeezing in a vegetable now and then gives all that natural goodness.

Think spinach, kale, carrot, even avocado! Of course not every vegetable will suit smoothie goodness but a quick Google search and you can begin to figure out which works best.

I find that I talk to so many parents who, like me, are at a stage where their toddling tots are being fussy and adamant, and that's OK!

This weather has all of our appetites a bit topsy-turvy so of course the toddler will feel the same!

That's why, when you give something as fun as a bright purple smoothie to a beaming little face, the satisfaction from seeing them thoroughly enjoying it, knowing all that goodness is in there, is just brilliant.

Obviously you can't live on smoothies but its something you can add to your once a day treat, and know that at least they have gotten some of their 5-a-day, and stayed cool in the warm weather while they were at it!

So I will now leave you with a recipe for a typical smoothie of mine that we all enjoy, and I hope you do too!

Super Berry Smoothie!

Ingredients:

  • Handful of frozen strawberries
  • Handful of blueberries
  • Handful of raspberries
  • Handful of spinach
  • 1 tblsp. of honey
  • 1 tsp. of your favourite Omega-3 supplement for kids
  • 1 small cup of water

(You can alter the amount of fruit, vegetables and water depending on how much you want to make, I just don't measure!)

Method:

1. Whiz everything up in the blender and voila!

2. You now have a super smoothie with all the goodness and less of the nasties!
