TV presenter Mary Portas recently revealed how her son with her wife, Melanie Rickey, was fathered by her brother, and this week she has opened up on the decision to share that information with the world.
In a new interview, with Good Housekeeping, the retail guru explained: “I am a gay woman and I have some sort of social responsibility to people who still feel they haven’t a voice.”
Mary, who welcomed son Horatio with wife Melanie, added: “I just happen to live with another woman and she had a child who happens to be from my brother…The more I am able to normalise that, the better the world is going to be.”
Mary announced earlier this year that her brother, Lawrence, had provided the sperm to conceive her son with Melanie’s egg. At the time, she said she made the decision in order to be biologically linked to Horatio.
The star is also mother to 21-year-old son Mylo and 19-year-old daughter Verity; her children from her marriage to Graham Portas.
