Angelina Jolie has been applauded for opening up about a highly sensitive and personal issue in recent days and it looks like the star's honesty has encouraged another celebrity to speak up about her own struggles regarding cancer and fertility.

The Tomb Raider star recently revealed that she had had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed upon discovering she had early warning signs of cancer and her honesty compelled another woman to open up about her own struggles.

Following the publication of Angelina’s moving prose in The New York Times, 30-year-old TV star Kelly Osbourne has revealed that she too carries the gene.

Speaking on chat show The Talk, Ozzy’s daughter said: “I actually do have the cancer gene. My mum made all of us go and get tested after she found out she had it and got her double mastectomy.”

Revealing that she expects to undergo surgery in the future, the star is matter-of-fact about the situation, saying: “I agree with this 100 per cent. I know one day I will eventually have to do it too. If I have children I want to be there to bring them up."

Drawing on her own experience of cancer, the star praised her mum Sharon, who in addition to undergoing a double mastectomy in 2012  also survived colon cancer, saying: “I have been the child of a cancer survivor and being on that end as well has been really hard to deal with. I’m so lucky to have the brave mother I have.”

Well done to these women for speaking out and raising awareness of such an important issue.
