Many mums find the changes their bodies go through after pregnancy tough. But one mum, who also happens to be a talented photographer, has snapped a stunning series of images of mums in all their postpartum glory, with the aim to challenge these negative perspectives.
Liliana Taboas has spearheaded Divine-Mothering, a feminist platform that seeks to give women and girls dignity and voice, humanising their bodies and celebrating how they naturally change over time, through pregnancy and breastfeeding.
“I want women to come here to meet other women, to be able to see what motherhood actually looks like,” says Liliana of the organisation. “I want to create a tribe, a support system, a validation system, a positive force to combat the negativity that we are being surrounded by.
“I want to further explore how motherhood can become a spiritual awakening and sacred task. I believe the love we have for our children is a love that expands our heart, expands our consciousness, expands our nurturing nature, and expands our compassion. It expands every ounce of love we have within ourselves. And it puts a loudspeaker to our inner voice, our hearts, our inner divine selves.”
And that is exactly what she has done with her empowering photo series. She wants women to know that their postpartum bodies are beautiful, that they have completed an awesome task and should be worshipped for it, belly rolls stretchmarks and all.
The juxtaposition of these women's strong, beautiful postpartum bodies side-by-side with the children they carried really brings home what they have achieved, making their bodies' changes seem even more awe-inspiring.
Consider us empowered.
