It certainly has been quite a few months already for the Swedish Royal Family. Just seven weeks after Crown Princess Victoria gave birth to her second child, her brother Carl Philip has become a father for the very first time.

According to an official statement released by the Palace, Prince Carl and wife Princess Sofia welcomed a son on Tuesday, April 19.

The couple, who wed last June, have named their little bundle of joy Prince Alexander Erik Bertil Hubertus. His official title is the Duke of Sodermanland.

While the name Alexander may seem pretty common for royalty in this part of the world, the couple’s choice has raised eyebrows in their native Sweden.

According to one expert, Herman Lindqvist: “No Swedish royals have been called Alexander, although during the 1800s, some princes had it as one of their names.”

The announcement of little Prince Alexander’s arrival was followed swiftly by the first photo of the new parents with their bundle of joy. Prince Carl and Princess Sofia posed for a refreshingly laid-back press photo, holding their newborn in his car-seat.

A statement released by the Palace revealed: “The family have now left the hospital, and are at home at Drottningholm Palace. Both mother and child are in good health, and the family are looking forward to spending time together.”

Congratulations to the family on their amazing news.
