It was one of the most traumatic experiences of her life, and now singer Lily Allen has spoken candidly about giving birth to a stillborn baby boy in 2010.

The singer opened up during an emotional interview on The Jonathan Ross Show, wiping away tears as she recalled the sad time.

Describing it as “the most unfortunate thing that can ever happen to a person”, the 29-year-old said that she was grateful for the support of her husband, Sam Cooper.

“There are many women – [there are] 17 stillbirths in the UK everyday – that go home and they don’t have that support….so I am kind of in a bit of a – since that happened – in a count my blessings scenario rather than feeling sorry for myself,” she said.

The star also opened up on her frustration over claims that she neglects her children, something which she also addressed last night on Twitter.

Lily, who is mum to two-year-old Ethel and one-year-old Marnie, called out the media for creating false stories to convey her in a negative light.

“There is a double standard. And also, it’s completely false because my children are with me most of the time,” she said, adding, “If there are photographers around, I make sure that I go in a different car because I don’t want them to have guys with what look like guns pointing at them…”

Lily’s interview will air on this Saturday night’s instalment of the show.
