Today our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Rylie Whitten, a Michigan teenager who is on partial life support after contracting ‘one of the worst cases’ of toxic shock syndrome (TSS) that local medics in the area have ever seen.

The 15-year-old’s ordeal all began over two weeks ago, on January 4, when she began to feel ill. According to local publication the Greenville Daily News, the teen spent two days in bed before her family began to grow concerned and got in touch with a local doctor.

In the space of just one hour, Whitten was airlifted to hospital and diagnosed with toxic shock syndrome, commonly contracted through the use of tampons. Hospital medics told the Whitten family that it was one of the worst cases of TSS they had ever come across.

With Whitten’s cardiovascular system and lungs failing, she was put into a medically-induced coma. She has spent the two weeks since on partial life support.

A GoFundMe page has now been set up to help with Whitten’s medical costs, and her family have urged people – especially teens – to arm themselves with information about TSS.

We are praying that Rylie will make a full recovery.
