When I had my first baby, I was snowed under with pearls of wisdom and words of advice.

That, and a multitude of questions.

"Oh, you're expecting? When are you due? Girl or boy? Will you be breastfeeding? Have you changed a nappy before? You're not thinking of co-sleeping...?"

When I became a mum for the first time, I quickly realised that nothing - and I mean NOT A THING- anyone said to me could have prepared me for Motherhood. So, whenever someone I know announces they are expecting, I bite my tongue.

I don't talk about the sleepless nights, the stinky nappies, the constant worry, the endless love. Without fail, I simply say:

"Congratulations! This baby is going to change your entire perspective on life". Some people look at me funny when I say this to them.

They smile somewhat awkwardly, unsure what to make of that statement. But I know they will soon find this to be true.

Your life will never be the same.

YOU will never be the same.

For from the moment your child is born, your heart will forever more walk around outside your body. When you hold your baby in your arms for the first time, you suddenly forget what your purpose in life was before this moment. There is no manual for parenthood, because no baby or child is the same.

Turns out that the best advice I can give anyone who's expecting ...is no advice at all!

How about you? What was the strangest or best word of advice you received when you were expecting?
