Your heart would have to be made of stone to not find koalas cute. And this one is especially adorable.

The female tot, named Louise after the woman who rescued her, was found on the ground in a chicken pen in Hawkes Nest in New South Wales, Australia after a huge storm battered the country’s east coast.

The staff at HKPS Koala Care and Rescue believe that Louise fell from the tree while her mum was asleep. Sadly, when the pair were reunited, her mum rejected her.

And it seems, in the koala world, that’s that.

“Once she is separated from mum, that’s it,” rescue coordinator Simone Aurino told Mashable Australia.

“She will be a hand-raised joey. Once she is weaned she will be put into a kindergarten situation with other young koalas to learn to be a big girl koala.”

While initially she refused to eat, baby Louise has now gained weight and has started to bond with her adoptive mum, Sue.

Baby Louise’s survival is crucial as the koala population in the Hawkes Nest area is close to extinction.

To raise awareness of their plight, baby Louise’s story has been splashed around the media in recent weeks, and she already has a legion of social media followers.
