If you have a soft spot for pies, this is definitely the book for you.

The gorgeous, handy-sized cookbook is packed full of delicious pie recipes that will leave your mouth watering before you have even started to bake.

Author of the book, Marika Gauci, previously worked as a chef and assisted in prestigious cookery schools before publishing the book, which may be the reason for her easy to read and follow step-by-step recipe guides. However, the mum-of-one actually started out as singer-songwriter which might explain the funkiness and coolness of some of the recipes within the book, especially the Waldorf (salad) summer pies.

However, she cut loose from the entertainment business and started a new life in the food industry. With her obvious skill for making pies, it is not surprising that Marika opened her very own cookery school, Marika’s Kitchen, and it is London’s only pie-making class. In her search for the ultimate British home cookery school, Marika decided that pies were the way to go and as you will no doubt find in the cookbook, the chef has a special ability for making pies.

The book starts off with “your essential shopping list” – a list of everything you will need to make the perfect pie: from the types of dishes to the baker’s hat and apron, Marika has not missed anything. Her pie rules not only help you to master the art of pie making, they are also transferrable baking skills that can be used for non-pie making recipes.

However, before you start to think that this is a book of just dinner pies, like her porky pies or lamb, lemon and oregano pie, you will be pleasantly surprised to find that you can satisfy any sweet tooth too. Some of her great sweet pie recipes include her little blueberry and lemon tartlets or her nectarine and apricot jam tart.

This is a must-have book for any experienced or in-experienced baker and will definitely be used over and over again.
