Two years ago, Celine Dion’s husband René Angélil passed away after an agonising battle with cancer.

Having described her late husband as “the only man I ever loved” it’s understandable that Celine has found it hard opening up about the tragic loss.

The singer bravely discussed their relationship and life since his passing in an interview with the Australian TV show The Project.

“He’s as alive as he was before, not physically with us, but I live with him, I see him every day through the eyes of my children,” Celine shared.

Speaking of her husband’s battle with cancer, Celine admitted that all she wanted was for her husband to leave in peace, “For three years my husband did not have a sip of water and food, he was eating through a tube.”

“I wanted him to feel so light and no worries. He had a little heart attack, it’s so quick, he didn’t even feel anything. I thought that he was like liberated from his pain,” she revealed.

It’s clear that the pair shared a special bond, despite the 26-year age difference. Celine admitted that her mum didn’t approve of their relationship in the beginning, but she didn’t let that affect them.

Like every mum, Celine’s mum was very wary about their blossoming love, “She always kept an eye on him because it was not the person that she wanted for me and I don’t blame her.”

The My Heart Will Go On singer shared that regardless of her mum’s concerns, she fell for René instantly, “He’s the only man I’ve seen. The only man I’ve loved. And I’ve never kissed another man in my life.”

The Oscar winner reassured her fans by confirming that she’s doing “really well.”

Celine and René spent 22 happy years together. They shared three sons- 17-year-old René-Charles, and 7-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy- who have helped Celine cope with the loss of her true love.
