Bringing a new life into the world is the most amazing thing you can ever do.

But sometimes, despite the best of care or plans, things don't always go as they're supposed to with new parents and babies having to spend countless nights in the NICU or PICU.

It is a stressful time for parents, who rarely get rest as they don't want to leave their children for any length of time.

But there comes a point when parents do have to leave, needing to sleep, shower or care for other siblings before returning to the hospital.

However, parents at the NICU at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, can feel at ease when leaving for a short time, as their babies are cared for in cuddles.

David Deutchman, has been visiting the healthcare centre for over 12 years, comforting babies in the NICU and PICU, when their parents need a rest.

Posting the photo online, the Children's Healthcare, explained: "They call him the ICU Grandpa. On Tuesdays, he visits the PICU to hold babies whose parents can’t be with them that day. On Thursdays, he makes rounds in the NICU."

"This photo was taken by baby Logan’s mom as she fought back happy tears. Logan has been in our hospital for six weeks."

Every night, baby Logan's mum drives a two hour journey home to be with Logan's big sister, and then back to the hospital the following morning.

His mum explains she feels anxious that her little boy has been missing her throughout the night, however, she was in for an emotional surprise reunion one morning.

"On this particular morning, she walked into the PICU to find Logan, a preemie born at just 25-weeks, in the arms of David, who smiled and introduced himself as the ICU Grandpa."

The hospital took the opportunity to explain how invaluable David's visits truly are for families: "This photo captures just one precious moment with a legend of a hospital volunteer who’s been holding patients, and their parents’ hands, for 12 years."

We're broken people - this needs to be celebrated.
