It's all too common to hear of breastfeeding mums being told to cover up in public places.

That’s why Briar Lusia McQueen was nervous when, out for breakfast with her eight-month-old son Jaxon for the first time, the tot got hungry.

As she started breastfeeding her boy, the new mum (22) from New Zealand braced herself for stares and nasty comments – but was left truly heartened instead.

“Just wanted to share this really sweet moment I had this morning,” Briar wrote in a Facebook post that has already been liked by 140,000 people.

“After a few minutes, this older lady walked up to me. I was scared, thinking she was gonna tell me to put my boob away.”

“Instead, she starts cutting up my breakfast for me and said ‘what a good mama you are, we can’t have your food getting cold can we’ – I honestly could have cried.”

The gesture deeply touched Briar’s heart, but the sweet old lady seemed to think nothing of it.

“I couldn’t thank her enough, I was so surprised and in complete awe of her,” she said. “I forgot to ask her name, I just thanked her over and over again…she just walked off like it was nothing.”

Naturally, Briar’s post has seen supportive comments flooding in. One woman wrote: “A perfect example of women lifting up other women in support. This is how it should be, love it!”

Another praised the kind-hearted woman, saying, “what a lovely lady for helping this momma. Instead of breastfeeding bashing, this lady helped this momma. Just how it should be in this world.”

What a beautiful story. Here’s hoping we hear more of them!
