Baby names rise and fall in popularity all the time. One year there could be dozens girls called Emily in the same class and then none for the next decade. It's the name of the naming game.

However have you ever wondered what the trendiest, coolest girl name of all time is?

Well lucky for you, David Taylor, a American biotechnologist and blogger, developed a graph looking at names and how their popularity in the US rises and falls over time.

And the trendiest name ever.... Linda.

How is Linda the trendiest name of all time you ask? Linda was used a hell of a lot for a relatively short period of time before dropping off the scale again.

Taylor discovered that in the U.S, the name Linda skyrocketed in popularity circa 1947, accounting for 5.5% of names given to baby girls that year.

Other trendy girls name include Shirley, Ashley and Brittany. The only boy's names that even comes close in trendiness are Jason and Mark.

"Trendy" in this case, however, shouldn't be confused with "popular". Popular names refer to those that have been consistently used over time (we're looking at you Sophies of the world).

As with most baby names, Linda was influenced by pop culture. According to Buzzfeed Parents,  the song Linda, made popular by musician Jack Lawrence topped the charts that year.

Lawrence apparently wrote the song about his attorney's  5-year-old daughter, Linda Eastwood. Little Linda would then go on to marry Beatles member Paul McCarthy, becoming no other but Linda McCarthy.

So there you go, Linda, you have the trendiest name in US history.
