Trying to find a place to breastfeed can be difficult at the best of times. Between hiding in bathrooms and covering themselves with blankets, mums sometimes have to go to extreme measures to keep their little ones fed.
But one mum decided to fight back, by calling out the people shaming her for feeding in public.
Brittni Medina, from California, recently shared a picture of herself feeding her son and smiling, while two other women looked on, disgusted.
In her post, Medina said:
"Well my little man is ten months and BF[breast-feeding]! So we’re pretty comfortable feeding anywhere, any way. Well, these ladies were so angered by it my husband just had to take a picture. Peep the haters"
Medina was so amused by the "snarky comments" made by the women that she "moved from my spot to catch a picture with these characters."
She also went on to explain that, when the picture was taken, they we standing in a long queue. Her son got hungry and instead of waiting in another line, she proceeded to feed him. She continued that the pictures were not taken to draw attention to herself but rather "to the fact that no woman should be shamed for feeding their baby uncovered."
After her post went viral, Medina updated the original post to say thank you for the support she received from other mothers. She also said that not only were her actions protected by law, but also by Disneyland policy:
"Boobs are not sexual! If you can’t inform your kids a baby is eating that’s not my issue. Am I normally this “exposed” when I feed my son? No! But not all moments as a mother are glamorous! I never expected the picture to go viral. Obviously it’s not the best one of me but I love it, because again, not all mom moments are glamourous."
The post was so widely circulated that it reached the two women in the photo. And Medina definitely turned the sass on them:
"If you have the audacity to say something to a mom standing in line off to the side feeding her kid expect something to happen or be said."
Other mothers had mixed reactions to the post, with many mums praising her practicality.
Medina received some more positive reactions from mums and those how believe that breastfeeding in public shouldn't carry as much stigma:
