When you have your first baby, the thought of getting out of the house seems impossible. Between packing bottles, nappies, blankets, the car seat and a buggy, it’s a bit of challenge taking a trip. However, as time goes on you may find yourself getting a dose of cabin fever locked up in the house and so a fun day trip with your baby might be exactly what you need. Here are a few suggestions of things you can do with your baby.

Join a parent and baby groups. Classes such as baby massage, baby yoga, or play and learn classes are available in almost every town in the UK. At these classes you can meet other mums and share in the experience of having a new baby. It’s a great way to make friends and also to bond with your baby.

Go to a ‘parent and baby’ movie screening. If you love trips to the cinema but have found it difficult to keep up with the latest releases since baby’s arrival, then why not attend a ‘Parents and Baby’ screening?  The lighting tends to be brighter at these screening and the volume is a little lower so the atmosphere is often more a communal experience where parents can interact and enjoy the movie together. It’s a great place to meet other mums (and dads) and parents chat about the movie after over a cup of coffee.

Bring your baby for a swim. Although you might feel a bit apprehensive about bringing a young baby to a swimming pool, it is actually an excellent idea to get them into the water as soon as possible. Babies generally take to water easily as it is a similar experience to being in the womb and if they enjoy bath time then there shouldn’t be any trouble. The younger you have them in the water the better, as they are less likely to be nervous around water when they get older and they will learn how to swim without much difficulty. You can purchase or borrow inflatable seats at most pools but ring ahead just to be sure. Some pools have designated times for parents with infants so enquire as to what time is best for you and your baby to visit.

Go for a walk. This is an easy way to pass a sunny afternoon and is also a great way to shed a bit of the baby weight. Both mummy and baby need fresh air so a stroll around your local park or even into the town is a great way for you to get some exercise and get out of the house. Wrap up baby well and bring a rain cover for your buggy just in case. There are also Jogging buggies available for those active mums. These buggies allow your baby to rest comfortably while you go for your run.

Visit a museum. There are lots of museums that hold events especially for parents with small children. These tours are buggy friendly and are a relaxing way to spend an afternoon with your baby
