When you’re pregnant, you’re coached to expect to spend hours in labour, and this is typically the case for a lot of women. You can see, then, why new mum Daisy Stewart was more than a little shocked when she welcomed her daughter last week after a matter of mere minutes.

Daisy gave birth to daughter Poppy after just five minutes and 17 seconds – taking contractions and the birth into consideration – and she now believes that she may have a claim to the Guinness World Record title for the fastest ever recorded birth.

Daisy, 20, from Dundee, was induced on Monday of last week, after doctors diagnosed her with pre-eclampsia; she was four weeks ahead of her due date at the time.

While midwives geared Daisy up for the long hours of labour ahead with her first child, even they were left shocked when little Poppy arrived into the world after just three pushes.

Speaking to the Evening Telegraph, the new mother recalled: “I was getting contractions but the nurse said it was going to be at least 10 hours before the birth…I pushed once, and she said, ‘There’s the head’. I pushed two more times, and then Poppy arrived.”

The tot was born weighing 6lbs 3oz, and both Daisy and new dad Keiran are delighted with their new bundle of joy.

They are now reportedly submitting an application to the Guinness World Records, so we’ll keep you posted!

SHARE to congratulate the family on their new arrival.
