Children go through a lot of clothes. Like a lot.

From the minute they are born your house will become a kids’ clothing minefield, where every step you take will be over, under or through dirty vests, trousers and shoes.

But if you’re anything like me, you don't throw clothes away when your little one outgrows them due to the sentimental value that each and every tiny sock and knickers holds.

No, instead you hoard them all, even if you are finished having children - because you simply can't bear to part with them.

However, as your little one gets older, more clothes start to fill the already-stuffed wardrobes, and the clutter can really start to feel like it is on top of you.

So, if you still aren't ready to pack them off to the charity, here's what you should do with them.

1. Store clothes in large plastic bins and label them

You can generally pick them up in your local DIY store or Aldi, and they aren’t that expensive. Opt for the clear plastic ones so you can see what’s inside the container and pop a few labels on like '0-3 months' etc. so if you do ever decide that the clutter is too much you can divide them out pretty easily.

2. Invest in a few vacuum-pack bags

You know the ones that you can suck all the air out of and stick under the bed? They fit a heck of a lot of clothes in them but take up hardly any space. And on the plus side, they’ll keep the clothes free from any damp.

3. Make use of redundant suitcases

Most of us have a few suitcases gathering dust underneath the bed (or wardrobe), and now is the time to put them to use. Simply pop in the clothes your kids won’t be wearing any more, lock them up and pop them back under the bed. Out of sight, out of mind.

And always, ALWAYS sort items into categories.. otherwise you’ll end up having to sort through them again when you do decide to finally give them away.
