Christina Simoes made the difficult decision to leap out of a burning building, in order to save her 18-month-old son.

The 23-year-old mother was at home with her son Camron last week, when she noticed smoke gathering in her apartment.

She immediately tried to escape to the hallway but then realised she couldn’t, due to it being surrounded by smoke. Christina was then faced with a difficult decision, as she knew the firemen would not be able to get to her and her son on time.

“I looked out the window again. I realized there wasn’t going to be any time to wait for a firefighter. I grabbed my son and I gave him a kiss. Told him I love him and then I jumped.”

Christina landed on her feet but broke her vertebrae as a result of the impact but fortunately her son, Camron had no major injuries just a few scratches.

Doctors are unsure if the mother will ever walk again, as she is currently in hospital recovering from serious back surgery.  But even though Christina is aware she might lose the use of her legs, she reveals it was worth it because her son is ok.

“It’s worth it because he’s ok.”
